The 9th Annual J Dilla Tribute & Benefit Concert [DC Loves Dilla] celebrates the life of James “J Dilla” Yancey, one of the most prolific beatmakers ever – responsible for crafting hits for The Roots, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Common and many more. The tribute raises funds for the J Dilla and Lupus Foundations.
Last night N’Dea Davenport of the Brand New Heavies, Phife Dawg of the A Tribe Called Quest, Bahamadia, Pharoahe Monch and some great underground artists, all ripped the stage in honor of J Dilla. J Dilla’s mom came out and helped the Smithsonian announce that J Dilla’s Moog & MP players will be featured piece in the new “African American History” Museum. Then we found out that there will be show coming to the Kennedy Center for J Dilla.
The night was jammed packed with surprises and great hip hop music. Check out what you missed!
